dc.description.abstractOs horizontes orgรขnicos e minerais dos solos florestais apresentam elevada importรขncia no armazenamento de C e N. No entanto, o conhecimento dos efeitos das espรฉcies florestais na fixaรงรฃo destes elementos รฉ ainda escasso, principalmente em Portugal. Com o propรณsito de contribuir para este conhecimento realizou-se um estudo em quatro povoamentos puros instalados na dรฉcada de 30 na Serra da Padrela, prรณximo de Vila Pouca de Aguiar. Duas das espรฉcies apresentam elevada representaรงรฃo na regiรฃo Norte do paรญs, Castanea sativa (CS) e Pinus pinaster (PP) e duas, embora com menor representatividade, evidenciam interesse silvรญcola, Pseudotsuga menziesii (PM) e Pinus nigra (PN). Na seleรงรฃo das รกreas de amostragem, procuraram-se caracterรญsticas semelhantes no que respeita a topografia, litologia e clima, de modo a reduzir o efeito de outras variรกveis e a melhor identificar as possรญveis diferenรงas no armazenamento de C e N devidas ร  espรฉcie florestal. Em cada povoamento, foram selecionados 15 locais ao acaso e colhido o material orgรขnico numa รกrea de 0,49 m2 por local. A colheita do material orgรขnico obedeceu a critรฉrios morfolรณgicos tendo sido separado nas camadas L, F e H. As camadas L e F, por sua vez, foram separadas em trรชs fraรงรตes: agulhas ou folhas, pinhas ou ouriรงos e ramos. Nos mesmos locais, foram colhidas amostras de solo nas profundidades 0-10 e 10-20 cm. As concentraรงรตes de C e N foram determinadas em todas as amostras (horizontes orgรขnicos e minerais) e convertidas em massa por unidade de รกrea. A massa de C por unidade de รกrea segue a sequรชncia PN > PM > CS > PP, mantendo as espรฉcies PM e PP a mesma tendรชncia para o N que segue a sequรชncia CS > PM > PN > PP. As espรฉcies PM e CS armazenam quantidades idรชnticas de C e N, sendo que cerca de 90% da quantidade destes elementos se encontra nos horizontes minerais do solo. dc.description.abstractThe organic and mineral horizons of forest soils are highly important in carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) storage. However, knowledge of the effects of the forest species on these elements fixation is still scarce, particularly in Portugal. In order to contribute to this knowledge, a study was carried out in four pure forest stands installed in the 40s in Serra da Padrela, near Vila Pouca de Aguiar. Two of the species have high representation in the North of the country, Castanea sativa (CS) and Pinus pinaster (PP) and two, albeit their smaller representation, have interest to forestry, Pseudotsuga menziesii (PM) and Pinus nigra (PN). When selecting the sampling areas, similar characteristics were sought with respect to topography, lithology and climate, so as to reduce the effect of other variables and better identify the differences in the C and N storage due to forest species. In each stand, 15 sites were selected at random and organic material was collected in an area of 0.49 m2 per site. Organic material collection obeyed morphological criteria, having been separated in layers L, F and H. Layers L and F were, in turn, separated into three fractions: needles or leaves; pinecones or husks; and branches. In the same locations, soil samples were taken at 0-10 and 10-20 cm depths. Concentrations of C and N were determined in all samples (organic and mineral horizons) and converted to mass per unit area. The C mass per unit area follows the sequence PN> PM> CS> PP while the species PM and PP maintain the same tendency as N, following the sequence CS> PM> PN> PP. The species PM and CS stored identical quantities of C and N, and about 90% of this amount is found in soil minerals horizons. In PN and PP species, the contribution of organic horizons is more significant in the retention of these elements.por
